Capacity development challenges and solutions for Natura 2000: an approach through blended learning

Abstract Capacity development is essential for the effective management of protected areas and achieving successful biodiversity conservation. European Natura 2000 sites form an extensive network developing capacity staff at all levels a priority that will positively influence appropriate implementation conservation actions. In this study we identify main challenges potential solutions to skills, knowledge tools required site management. Our findings are based on case project LIFE e-Natura2000.edu, which focuses in practical through integrated blended learning experiences (i.e. combination face-to-face virtual teaching). We illustrate elements successfully building within variety experience backgrounds operating related sites. Multifaceted, approaches key tackling various needs managers terms tools.
